Engage and Support
Portland String Quartet Society
(formerly Known as LARK)
The Portland String Quartet Society (formerly known as the LARK Society) has been presenting the Portland Concert Series for 38 years. This series is one of the cornerstones of Portland’s arts and music scene. The Board of the PSQS and the members of the PSQ have continued to improve upon the series through the years in order to enhance the learning and listening enjoyment of participants. Some examples of our efforts in this area include: Our pre-concert lectures, post-concert receptions where concertgoers can meet and talk with the performing artists, informative program notes by Will Hertz and Julia Adams, premieres of musical works commissioned by and for the PSQ, and guest artists from both Maine and around the world.
In addition, through innovative audience building strategies, our audience has been on a steady increase for more than 5 years. 35% of our audience has been attending our concerts for more than 10 years - that's loyalty! Approximately 10 % of the audience at each concert are 1st time attendees. The PSQ has a willingness to explore and perform new and less-familiar music that challenges the listener.
Finally, and most importantly, the members of the Portland String Quartet are international caliber musicians. They bring their warmth, humor and extensive talent to each performance, and are often joined by renowned guest artists that they call friends. We are fortunate to have these gifted musicians call Maine “home”.
Your support in the form of a sponsorship will help the PSQS continue to present innovative, high quality chamber music programming for the people of Maine.

Board Membership and Volunteering
The Portland String Quartet Society anticipates a limited number of openings on the Board next year - for people who love chamber music and the Portland String Quartet, and have time to commit to the work the Board does on behalf of the PSQ, for whom PSQS is the support group.
If you do not have time to serve as a Board member, but would like to help on an occasional basis, several opportunities exist to help before or after concerts, in exchange for free admission.
The mission of the Portland String Quartet Society is to promote chamber music and music education in the state of Maine.
